New Content

Mythical creatures take up arms as Paradise Island erupts into civil war. Cyclops, Satyrs, Harpies, and more will join the armies of the warring amazons and determine the fate of the mortal world, beginning with Gotham City. The battle lines are being drawn in Amazon Fury Part I.

Gotham Warzone
Gotham City is under assault. An enormous magical barrier has been erected by Hippolyta to contain Brainiac’s forces before the attack begins. Invisible battleships patrol the skies and unload troops and supplies for the assault to come. Creatures from Greek mythology pour into the streets as the warring factions of Amazons begin to form their battle lines. Solo missions in this re-envisioned Gotham City allow players to whether work with the rebels to defend Gotham City and halt the advance of the loyalists, or take up arms with the queen and prepare to reduce the city to rubble.

2x Iconic Visions
Step into the boots of Wonder Woman and Circe in these two unique Challenges. By using a magical scrying bowl, you will experience a vision of the past and relive the events leading up to the Amazon Civil War that set the events of the Amazon Fury trilogy into motion. Play as Wonder Woman as the Amazon Princess rallies rebel forces to oppose her mother’s invasion of Gotham City. Assume the role of Circe as she tries to prove herself a loyal ally to Hippolyta and lend her godly power to the invading Amazon armada.

2x Dockside Duos
The Amazons have constructed an Armada of invisible battleships to launch their assault on Gotham City and destroy Brainiac. These ships are being loaded with troops and supplies at the docks of Paradise Island. As a rebel supporter you will need to help Wonder Woman’s forces obtain supplies and ships, while at the same time try to prevent the launch of the enemy’s vessels. As a loyalist working with Circe and Hippolyta, you will find yourself defending the war supplies from the rebels and trying to prevent their ships from pursuing your armada to the mortal world.

Paradise Island Alert
Form a group of four and fight your way to the palace gates! Here you will determine the course of history. Wonder Woman will try to stop Hippolyta and Circe from launching their assault. You will have to battle your way up to the highest point on Paradise Island, to the very gates of the palace itself, through never before seen parts of Themyscira. The foes you will face come straight out of the pages of myth and legend. You will get to choose how the battles unfold, as your path and the decisions you make influence the challenges ahead.

New Gear

Tier Six
This DLC brings a whole new tier to the game. Not only are we adding more power to your characters with the extra stats, but we’ve got a whole new approach to how the drops will work. We will continue our new direction with offering gear and styles on vendors. The drops, however, are going to be handled a little differently however… Everything will be unattuned! So, are you a controller and you just got those best-in-slot legs? Well, celebrate; because they are not for a healer, they are for YOU!

Amazon Styles
These terrific slim line styles will really add to a characters look. We’ve got a great direction going for these Greek inspired styles that have a very mix and match approach to them. You’ll find the possibilities for unique looks with these new appearance items to be numerous.

Announcing Amazon Fury Part I!

Tier 6 is here! And with it comes the arrival of our 10th DLC Pack – Amazon Fury Part I!

In Brainiac’s bid to digitize the multiverse, he created three avatars, each associated with a powerful Nexus of Technology, Meta, and Magic. It was the Avatar of Magic’s creation on Themyscira outside the gates of Tartarus that has led us to this moment. Furious at the attack on Paradise Island, Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons, began silently planning a counterstrike. Holding the mortal world responsible for letting the infestation of Braniac reach her shores, she decides the time for peace has passed and that the time of war and death has begun.

In Amazon Fury Part I you will experience the beginnings of an all out Amazon assault on Gotham City, the entrance to the Nexus of Reality and the Seat of Brainiac’s power on Earth. But the idea of war has fractured the Amazon civilization, and civil war has erupted. Wonder Woman opposes her mother’s invasion. Amazons have fallen in line behind either their queen or their princess. Which side will you stand beside as the battle for Gotham City begins?

We’re very excited to kick off this trilogy and add a new chapter to the already fantastic Wonder Woman and Circe storylines you can experience in DC Universe Online. Where will the story go from here in Parts II & III? I can tell you now, to great depths and great heights. We’re looking forward to starting this journey with all of you. I know I am anxious to show off the great work the team has done in some livestreams down the road, so stay tuned, because you are going to love what you see.

Until then, here’s a breakdown of the contents of DLC 10 – Amazon Fury Part I.

Thanks,

DC Universe Online: War of the Light Part I Now Available

Sony Online Entertainment, LLC (SOE) announced today that the ninth downloadable content (DLC) pack for DC Universe Online (DCUO) – War of the Light Part I – is now available for download on the PC, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 computer entertainment systems. War of the Light Part I is the first installment of an epic trilogy focusing on characters that wield power from the Emotional Spectrum.

Intense multiplayer action in War of the Light Part I centers on a brand-new storyline inspired by DC Comics’ vast Lantern lore and takes place in a re-envisioned Metropolis featuring nearby planets Mogo, the sentient Green Lantern Planet, and Ranx, the Sentient Sinestro Corps City. Players are introduced to Saint Walker and the Blue Lantern Corps in War of the Light Part I, and can expect to see additional Corps in future DLCs. Additionally, players now have access to Rage Powers and new Legends PvP characters – Saint Walker and Atrocitus.

“Players are getting more than just a new storyline with this DLC. We transformed Metropolis for the War of the Light trilogy and created new, expandable environments and content – separate from the original – for players to explore, In War of the Light Part I both heroes and villains can utilize Rage powers, a unique and challenging power set that offers a new tanking mechanic, adding yet another dimension to fights. It looks amazing and I’m looking forward to players mastering the Red Lantern-inspired power.”
- Jens Andersen, Senior Creative Director for DC Universe Online

In War of the Light Part I, Lanterns of all colors have lost connection with their Emotional Spectrum's entities. Following cryptic evidence, four Corps – Green, Blue, Sinestro, and Red – converged on Earth, determined to find out what happened to their entities. This clash of the Lantern Corps has resulted in a new war of light, centered in Downtown Metropolis and nearby sentient planets Mogo and Ranx. Players must team up with Hal Jordan or Sinestro in high-level multiplayer adventures to investigate the strange colored mists that have descended upon Metropolis and are affecting the citizens’ emotions.

War of the Light Part I includes:

  • New Rage Power – Drawing its power from the Red Light of the Emotional Spectrum, Rage can be utilized for either good or evil. Heroes and villains who wield the tank/damage power will notice its abilities have a berserker style feel.
  • New 4-Player Operations – Unusual colored mists have appeared and caused a new war of light, centered in Downtown Metropolis, Mogo and Ranx. With the help of their allies, including Hal Jordan and Kyle Rayner on the hero’s side, and Hank Henshaw and Sinestro on the villain’s side, players must uncover the origin of the mysterious mists.
  • New 8-Player Operation – The Green Lantern and Sinestro Corps clash while investigating the mists in this new Operation taking place on Mogo and Ranx.
  • New Legends PvP Characters – War of the Light Part I introduces two new Lanterns – the violent Atrocitus and the agile Saint Walker.
  • New Lantern-inspired Gear – Heroes can earn Green Lantern-inspired gear, while villains can collect gear influenced by the Sinestro Corps. Both alignments can obtain the Red Lantern styled gear.
  • New Feats and Collections

Patch Notes - DLC9: War of the Light Part I
CAPTAIN M0T0RB0AT / Mar 04, 2013
Producer Letter - 2/22/2013

Hello again everyone,

With Game Update 23 and its Fire and Ice changes live, I wanted to recap what we’ve done with powers since we set out to rebalance power sets in DC Universe Online, and set expectations for what’s to come. First, let me clarify our priorities with each revamp. Balance and bug fixing trump everything else in these updates. Next on the list is performance – rendering and memory efficiency. They’re especially important given the strict limitations of the PS3. We actually regard visuals as the least critical of this important trio. That’s not to diminish the work of our visual effects team – they do a fantastic job – but the reality of the situation is they can’t simply create art without consideration for efficiency.

In short, we want to make sure that powers are balanced, defects are resolved, and ensure that things that cause slow-down or gameplay issues are remedied. That’s why Ice Armor was changed from an effect that required a form change – which could cause a delay at the worst possible time – to something that attaches to the player. We have set out to improve visuals – while at the same time looking for ways to improve rendering and/or memory characteristics of each visual effects set. With visuals, our intent is to make powers look and perform better.

To start the process, we tackled Mental and Gadgets – the two powers that were in greatest need of change. As a result, they changed a lot, visually as well as functionally. The end result was two powers that were thematically superior, that simply worked better than before. Next, we turned to Fire and Ice. Fire and Ice were less broken, and Ice had the benefit of solid visuals. Fire effects were changed to make them work better – to make them less likely to obscure gameplay and to consume less memory. The new fire not only looks better, but it communicates more clearly. Ice did receive some love, including a new shader that looks markedly better and improvements to a few abilities to make them more impactful. We did take PC Test feedback to heart, agreeing that sharing the same effect between similar abilities could be confusing. That’s why we created beam variants for each ability that uses one, and an alternate shield. We also modified the Ice Armor – making it easier to read across the character spectrum, from sprite to brute – even a brute wearing Aurochs T4 armor with its impossibly huge shoulder plates.

Going forward, we will telegraph our intentions for power adjustments more precisely. While we did receive plenty of feedback from the community, the most specific feedback came once we were on PC Test. It’s my hope that we can set expectations and elicit great ideas earlier with the next powers – Sorcery and Nature, bearing in mind that both Sorcery and Nature begin the process from much stronger positions than even Fire and Ice did. Look for our official feedback threads in the Developer Discussions section of the forums once we’re ready to begin and take advantage of your chance to weigh in.

Best,
Larry Liberty

Announcing DCUO's Next DLC Pack, Home Turf! - 10/18/2012

Anyone who has had any contact with me about DC Universe Online knows that I love to hint about what’s coming next. I try and drop hints, or make clever references that get people stewing about what might be around the corner. That is why it has been excruciatingly hard to keep my mouth shut about our next DLC pack. Now the time has finally come when the team is ready to reveal what we have been working on for so many months. So let’s get right to it…

The next DLC is called Home Turf, and it introduces player housing to DC Universe Online! Now that the bat’s out of the cave – or should I say in the cave? – let me go over some of the main features coming in Home Turf.

Player Lairs

The Lair will offer several exciting things for players. The first is a theme. Themes give the lair a sense of location – like a sewer or a penthouse – and anchor it to a persistent entrance in Gotham City or Metropolis. Lairs will be fully customizable spaces. You can collect props while playing and then use them to decorate your Lair. These items will be tradable, creating a secondary market for players. In the coming weeks we will reveal more information about Lair customization, themes, and props.

Mainframe and Generator

Every Lair has a Mainframe that can be upgraded by the player. Mainframe upgrades give you access to incredible Lair Features – like allies and technologies – which can be used in combat throughout the game. The Mainframe abilities offer a whole new array of tactics. Players will gain passive abilities and active powers that they can bring to bear in battle. But don’t worry; these abilities are handled through communication devices (trinkets), so they won’t compete with your normal super power load outs.

Generators are the power that keeps a Lair running. By powering your generator you can set up amenities normally only found in HQs and Safe Houses. Once you haveHome Turf, it will be up to you which amenities and how many you want to maintain in your Lair, but the options are at your fingertips. The team will be sharing more news on Mainframes and Generators in the days ahead so stay tuned for more specifics.

Lair Battles

This is where Home Turf sets itself apart from normal housing systems. Players will be able to do battle in each other’s Liars. Lair Duels will match players up to fight. These battles will be round-based and feel like an extended one on-one-battle inside one of the combatant’s Lairs. Nothing is more fun than trashing someone else’s Lair to bits. But don’t worry about protecting your priceless stuffed Wooly Mammoth, the damage is temporary and will reset once the battle is over. You’ll really need to see Lair Battles in action to fully understand how cool this is going to be, so we’ll have some exciting Dev Videos in the weeks ahead.

New Missions

Home Turf introduces some new adventures in some of the most iconic locations in the game. New missions and content have been created for the interiors and exteriors of Ace Chemicals, Stryker’s Island, Steelworks, and Arkham Asylum. There will be daily missions for high end players at each of these locations. The content – inside and out – will be solo in nature. We’ll fill you on more specifics in some features about Home Turf, so hang tight for more details about the new daily missions.

So that is a pretty high level breakdown of our next DLC pack, Home Turf. We look forward to sharing more about what Home Turf has to offer. It is an exciting time to see this hugely requested feature finally coming to DCUO. We know you’re going to love it. We also know you will have lots of wish list features for the system, and we’re anxious to hear your thoughts, so jump on the Forums, Facebook, or Twitter and let us hear it. We look at Home Turf as a starting point, a foundation to build on, for some amazing Lair content, and we can’t wait to show you more. Until then, I’ll see you in game!

First Look! The Witching Hour! - 09/28/2012

Trick…or treat? Game Update 19 features a new seasonal event for Halloween – The Witching Hour! This October, Gotham City is getting a ghoulish makeover, and there are tricks and treats aplenty to go around. Don't miss this exciting new event in DC Universe Online!

Chaos in Gotham City!

Klarion the Witch Boy is stealing the powers of Heroes and Villains throughout the DC Universe and using them to cause quite a bit of Halloween mischief on the streets of Gotham City. Apparitions of all kinds are rising from the earth and tormenting trick-or-treaters. Heroes, it will be up to you to save the civilians, and Villains, well, you should be able to find some way to take…advantage…of the situation.

The Midnight Masquerade!

It's not Halloween without a great, ghoulish costume party, and Klarion is no slouch when it comes to throwing parties. He's taken over a club in the city and casting spells on innocent civilians, forcing them to attend. Whether Hero or Villain, you are going to have good reason to crash this party. Be careful, though. The powers Klarion has stolen are from some of the world's most powerful magic users, and look out for his cat, Teekl, too.

Treats!

Of course, we have treats to earn throughout the event. You'll find new trinkets, a new pet, and of course a ton of new Halloween-themed styles.

The Witching Hour will soon be available on the PC Test server along with the rest of Game Update 19, and will be moving to live in early October. If you have a Legendary Membership on PC, please come over and try out the new content! If you don't, stay tuned for more information and get ready for when the event goes live. You won't want to miss it!
